Quadcopter Project : 01 : Beginnings

So I finally worked up the guts to make a quadcopter. This series of posts will cover the parts I can write about as I get the time. So here we go

First things first

The first part of any project is the requirements or the specifications. In our case, the first thing is how much weight I want it to lift. That will include the copter itself and any load like camera etc. I bypassed that and simply went with building a copter that could lift around 2.5Kgs . I got the following parts from ebay.

  • EMAX MT2213-935 BLDC motors- 4 of em
  • No brand props 10×4.3 – 4 of these(actually 4 plus 2 spare)
  • EMAX 4x25A combined ESC

This was bought off ebay and tested them using an Arduino and a bench power supply at 10Volts

That made me confident that I was on the right path.

The Frame

I was actually not going to spend on what I could build so I took up a saw and built a simple frame. Dimentions were 2 feet motor to motor. Pics below show my creation.

Mounting the Motors

Sounds simple enough but I had to break a few eggs here. I drilled holes for the motor screws as well as sinks for the motor shafts. See pics below

The next step is to buy batteries. Will post the progress in the future.
